The Team

Geoffrey Wood Patterson

Our founder.  A mixture of The Dude from Big Lebowski and April Ludgate from Parks and Rec, Geoff found his love of comics while looking up to his father, Lt “Pat” Patterson.  When Geoff Sr was a child during World War II, Pat was a flying ace in the Pacific Theater.  Geoff Sr was born a week before Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941.  Pat flew off to war almost immediately after Geoff Sr was born.

When Geoff Sr was old enough to pick out his comics, he always picked Blackhawk, the story of a group of daring pilots fighting the Axis.  I wonder how often he imagined his father joining in those exploits.  Geoff Sr’s love of comics took a break for many years as he traveled the world, delivered organ transplants, drove an ice cream truck, and worked with children in the juvenile detention system.

He decided to open a comic store because he was tired of working for “the man”.  Our founder’s love of comics and excitement at including everyone who loved comics too in infused in everything we do as a business.  We hope you can still sense his presence as he has left to manage the Geoffrey’s Comics location in Valhalla.

Geoffrey Wood Patterson II

Geoffrey Wood Patterson II is our current owner, the oldest son of the founder.  Geoff jr was practically born and definitely raised in Geoffrey’s Comics.

Constantly surrounded by comics, Geoff has become our resident expert on the entire history of superheroics.  Geoff gives guest lectures at high schools and colleges on the history of comics, and will talk with anyone about any part of the amazing history of comics for far too long.  His favorites remain the Flash and the Fantastic Four, but he can recommend a book for nearly any character you might think of!

Kristen

Kristen co-owns and manages Hi De Ho Comics, the longest still running comic book shop in Los Angeles County, located in Santa Monica. Before managing Hi De Ho Comics, Kristen worked with gang involved girls within the juvenile justice system. She has 20 plus years of experience working in the non-profit sector with a variety of diverse communities, her passion being gender specific work. Presently, she works to integrate the experience and passion she’s built over the years into comic retailing by making diversity a priority at Hi De Ho and working to provide access to the comic book industry to marginalized groups and communities. Kristen has a love for horror comics with some of her favorites being The Closet, Harrow County and Nice House on the Lake. She also co-hosts a comic related podcast, Comadres y Comics which highlights the Latinx representation in the comic book industry as characters, creators and fans.

Jeff B

Jeff B has been at Geoffrey’s Comics the longest. Jeff is the friendly uncle of the Geoffrey’s family and has been there with unwavering loyalty for the Geoffrey’s family since before Geoffrey Jr was even born (In fact, he took the first ever picture of Geoff Jr, being proudly held in the arms of Geoff Sr at the hospital a few hours after entering the world.). His expertise is Silver Age comics, as well as any an everything 3D. He practically built every fixture in the store single-handed. Well, not single handedly, he used both his hands for most of them. As well as every cool decoration that lights up or is breaking through a wall. Jeff is the handy-man extraordinaire at Geoffrey’s Comics, as well as a historian of all things, not just Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

Greg G

Greg knows anything and everything about G.I. Joe and Green Arrow. DC is his main area of expertise when it comes to superheroes but he does know some Marvel as well. His favorite Marvel characters are the Fantastic Four and loves Mr. Fantastic, and his favorite DC characters are Green Arrow, Beast Boy and Plastic Man. Greg loves reading independent comics because they always are fascinating and creator driven. He can always give you great recommendations from throughout DC history and current indy books, if the big capes are starting to bore you.

Jonathan

Jonathan is always happy to talk about Indie Comics, upcoming game releases (tabletop and digital), and most of all Trading Card Games. Once a MTG player…always a MTG player.  He started playing Magic: the Gathering in Urza’s block almost twenty-five years ago and it remains a defining constant in his life. There’s a good chance you’ll catch his Chocolate Lab named Doodle hanging out with everyone at Friday Night Magic and if you see her behind the counter you are always welcome to ask to say hello!

Jules

Jules has been a DC Comics fan for more than twenty years, and even cosplayed as Superboy at Free Comic Book Day. His favorite writers are Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, and Scott Snyder, and his favorite artists are Jock and Greg Capullo. Despite being a huge DC nerd, Jules is fond of comics by Marvel, BOOM! Studios, and Image, and is happy to talk anything related to graphic storytelling at large.

Nathan

Nathan grew up in Venice and learned to surf around 7 years old. His love of comics eventually led him to find the Silver Surfer, which furthered his interest in surfing. He began a surf club at his high school in 2006 and is glad to hear it’s still active. Sharing his favorite experiences and helping others is important to Nathan and part of why he has worked as a lifeguard for 10 years. Hi De Ho Comics was one of the first places he ever played Magic the Gathering and the game continues to be an important part of his life. Working at Hi De Ho Comics is very much a dream come true for Nathan!

Nicho

Nicho is a life-long resident of Santa Monica having virtually grown up at Hi De Ho Comics. In 2014, he joined the Hi De Ho team as a temporary employee helping out at such events as Free Comic Book Day and Parking Lot Sales. In 2020, he was officially hired as a Retail Associate and became a full fledged member of the Hi De Ho team. Nicho is the resident Pokemon Professor at Hi De Ho helping to coordiante Junior Pokemon League from 1-4 on Sundays and Pokemon Pre-Release events. He is an avid player of Magic the Gathering who runs the Commander League on Monday evenings at the shop. He enjoys Anime+Manga and is slowly trying to catch up on his long comic reading list.
